NEM FCAS market value by service and region
NEM FCAS market value by service and region
Frequency control ancillary services (FCAS) pay generators, batteries and loads to hold capacity ready to correct system frequency. This page shows what those markets paid each month since July 2009, by service and region, in today's dollars. Each month's value is the 5-minute regional price of each service times the megawatts AEMO enabled in that region, summed over the month.
Use Region to narrow every chart except the regional one to a single region, and Service to pick the service on the single-service chart. Drag across any chart to zoom into a period.

Build a dashboard like this
An AI agent built this page from a plain-English request using NEM Explorer, which holds AEMO market data from 2009 onward. The page re-runs its queries against the latest data each time it is opened. Build me a dashboard of the monthly value of each FCAS market since 2009, stacked by service, in today's dollars, with a region filter.
Method, sources and caveats
Values come from AEMO dispatch data with INTERVENTION = 0: for each 5-minute interval, each unit's enabled megawatts for a service times that service's regional price, summed over units and months. This is the market's gross payment for enablement before cost recovery. It is not each provider's settled revenue, and it leaves out Frequency Performance Payments.
Months are NEM time (UTC+10). The current, part-finished month is left out so it does not read as a collapse.
The warehouse holds no 1-second contingency (Raise 1 sec, Lower 1 sec) prices before August 2024, although that market opened in October 2023. Totals for October 2023 to July 2024 leave those two services out.
Real dollars scale each month by the ABS Consumer Price Index (All groups, Australia) for its quarter, relative to the latest published quarter. Months in quarters the ABS has not yet published stay at their nominal value.
